Ceann comes to Indiana
New York’s Ceann is an Irish rock band that you don’t need to be Irish to enjoy. The quintet, ranging in age from 28 to 32, are taking the East Coast by storm with hyperactive, light-hearted ditties about fake pirates, Vikings, green beer and girls who are only “Pretty on the Inside” — which was the NPR song of the day on June 11. Ceann (pronounced “key-ann”) have been compared to a funnier, acoustic version of Flogging Molly and the Dropkick Murphys. “The Worst Pirate Song” has been downloaded more than 50,000 times on the band’s Web site. If you think the band is anything but a good time, guitarist and vocalist Patrick Halloran revealed that the band’s original name was Ceann na Caca, which is Gaelic for “Poopoo Head.” Halloran said the band’s stock has been rising since “The Worst Pirate Song” and “Pretty on the Inside” hit. “I got an e-mail from the girl I went to my high school prom with. She said she heard this obnoxious song and my name on the radio and she had to listen,” Halloran said. This show will be Ceann’s fi rst in Indiana. “The Midwest is where we’re received the best. They get our mentality and sense of humor,” the guitarist said.
